La Semaine des Langues a pour vocation de mettre en lumière les langues et la diversité linguistique dans les écoles et les établissements, mais aussi en dehors du cadre scolaire. Elle constitue un temps fort pour encourager la pratique des langues et leur valorisation.

L'édition 2024 de la Semaine des Langues se tiendra du 18 au 23 mars 2024. Cette neuvième édition s'inscrit dans la dynamique de l'organisation des Jeux olympiques et paralympiques (JOP) de Paris 2024 et de la construction d'une École engagée.

La découverte de la thématique « L'important, c'est de communiquer ! » (inspirée de la célèbre maxime « L'important, c'est de participer ! ») se poursuit avec pour objectif l'engagement actif et citoyen des élèves pour célébrer les Jeux olympiques et paralympiques, leurs valeurs, leur histoire et leurs figures emblématiques. La dimension linguistique (lire, écrire, parler) de cet événement est renforcée pour soutenir la progression des élèves dans la maîtrise des langues.

Les projets linguistiques et culturels peuvent prendre différentes formes (rédaction d'articles, manifestations sportives et ludiques, rencontres interculturelles, créations artistiques, etc.). Les actions inter-langues et inter-cycles sont vivement encouragées.

Jeux olympiques et paralympiques 2024 : paroles d'assistants de langue

Maisie, assistante de langue anglaise au collège Robert Doisneau de Montrouge (92), nous parle de l'enseignement de l'éducation physique et sportive dans son pays et de sa passion pour le netball, sport répandu au Royaume-Uni. Elle souligne les valeurs de partage et d'amitié portées par les JOP.

Vincent, assistant venant des USA affecté dans une école de l'Essonne, évoque sa pratique du Lacrosse et du football américain, sports emblématiques de son pays, qui ont le pouvoir de rassembler les gens autour d'une passion commune !

About National Hispanic Heritage Month

Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.
The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988, on the approval of Public Law 100-402.
The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September18, respectively. Also, Columbus Day or Día de la Raza, which is October 12, falls within this 30 day period.

Edinburgh Festival Fringe (August)

The Fringe story dates back to 1947, when eight theatre groups turned up uninvited to perform at the (then newly formed) Edinburgh International Festival, an initiative created to celebrate and enrich European cultural life in the wake of the Second World War.

Not being part of the official programme of the International Festival didn't stop these performers, they just went ahead and staged their shows on the fringe of the Festival anyway, coining the phrase and name – the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Since the dawn of this spontaneous artistic movement, millions have flocked to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe to produce, and to enjoy art of every genre.

Year on year more and more performers followed their example and in 1958 the Festival Fringe Society was created in response to the success of this growing trend. The Society formalised the existence of this collective of performances, provided information to artists, published the Fringe programme and created a central box office.

Its constitution was written in line with the ethos that brought these theatre companies to Edinburgh back in 1947 ; that : the Society was to take no part in vetting the festival's programme.

The announcement was the crowning achievement in an effort by the Jewish Museum of Florida and South Florida Jewish community leaders that resulted in resolutions introduced by Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida and Senator Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania urging the president to proclaim a month that would recognize the more than 350-year history of Jewish contributions to American culture.
