Flag Day (June 14th)

, par Gaël Manescau

Flag Day, which is celebrated in the United States every June 14th is a day for all Americans to celebrate and show respect for their flag, its designers and makers. It was President Truman who signed an Act of Congress designating June 14th of each year as National Flag Day. This day commemorates the adoption by the Continental Congress on June 14, 1777, of the Stars and Stripes as the U.S. flag. Although it is a legal holiday only in Pennsylvania, President Truman, on August 3, 1949, signed a bill requesting the president to call for its observance each year by proclamation.
